Our Revolution Abroad – Australia

Welcome to Our Revolution Abroad – Australia

Our Revolution Australia grew out of an all-volunteer effort in Australia to elect Bernie Sanders and from the growing team at Our Revolution. While Bernie may not have won, his and Jane’s mission of creating a movement that empowers all and neglects none is just getting started. With membership throughout the country, we are the defacto progressive movement of Democrats Abroad Australia. And we are here to stay. Join us!

Our Revolution Abroad Slate for Executive Committee, Democrats Abroad Australia

Members of Our Revolution Abroad (ORA) are running on a slate for the following positions for the Executive Committee of Democrats Abroad Australia (DAA). Please vote for each of the following candidates for the positions:

Umme Sarah Hoque for Chair
Kent Getsinger for Vice-Chair
Kito Alvarez for Secretary

These nominations are for Executive Committee, who will be the leaders of Democrats Abroad Australia.

We need people in these positions who will advocate and fight for the progressive principles like universal healthcare, living wage,  corporate money out of politics, economic justice, equity rights for all and above all else, who are committed to the movement created by Bernie and Jane Sanders to inspire others to activism, involvement and leadership.

Please also read the candidates’ Joint Slate Statement. Individual statements are hyperlinked in the names above and below.

WE ASK YOU TO VOTE FOR EACH CANDIDATE FOR THE POSITIONS LISTED.

How to Vote

On Saturday, 18 March 9:30am – 12:00pm AEDT (the local time in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra), Democrats Abroad Australia has the Annual General Meeting (AGM) where voting will occur.

The meeting will be held at North Sydney Community Centre, Wattle Room, 220 Miller St, North Sydney NSW 2060 (Google map and directions)

You can attend the meeting in person or remotely by WebEx – the registration deadline is Friday 17 March.

If you plan to attend the AGM in person or remotely by WebEx, you will vote in person on the day. A full schedule of the meeting can be found here

If you cannot attend the meeting in person nor remotely, please submit an absentee ballot as soon as possible.

A note on the election process: the vote for Chair will occur first, then proceed to Vice Chair and then to Secretary. The Democrats Abroad by-laws stipulate that there must be gender balance between the Chair and Vice-Chair, our slate has intentionally incorporated this need for equity.

Please vote for each of the following candidates for the positions:

Umme Sarah Hoque for Chair
Kent Getsinger for Vice-Chair
Kito Alvarez for Secretary

The AGM is open to all US citizens who at the time of the AGM are registered as members of Democrats Abroad Australia. However, you also need to register for the meeting, whether you plan to attend via WebEX or in person.  Please see this link for more information on registration.
